IMPORTANT: This thread is if you never had a previous chat integrated with your forum prior to updating your forum to v5.
Follow the steps below to create a new chat page and to integrate addonchat with your ProBoards forum v5.
If you haven't already got a chat account sign up for one at addonchat.com/. After signing up you can login to your account at the same link. Go to your chat control panel then click the Home tab then the sub-link Chat Room Link Code. Copy the embedded chat code.
Part one: Create the chat page 1. In forum admin under structure select Custom Pages 2. Click Create New Custom Page. 3. Type Chat as the Title and chat as the ID then click the create button. 4. Select from Layouts "Blank" then at bottom of page click Submit 5. Click the HTML tab. 6. Paste the embedded chat code into the HTML. Place <center> before the code and </center> after the code. 7. Edit the portion of this code that reads { iconsize: 0 } and replace it with { iconsize: 0, autologin: true, username: proboards.data('user').username } Then Save Changes.
Part two: Place your chat link into the navigation menu 1. Under Settings select Forum Settings 2. Click the Navigation tab 3. Click the Add Custom button 4. In the name type Chat 5. Under URL type /page/chat (this auto saves so your new link to chat should be in the menu). The URL is case sensitive so make sure it matches the upper or lower case your typed in the page ID.

Okay, I am completely lost. I am getting very frustrated. I can't figure out the second part of these instructions at all! Under 'Settings' where?!

And I just found through trial and error what you were trying to explain. Now I am getting 'This page does not exist' too! I am not happy at all. I wish you all had just left it the way it was, when it was built into ProBoards. Sick of things being 'fixed' that were not broken.

We (AddonChat) didn't make the decision to change the integration of our chat with ProBoards forums. That was a decision made by ProBoards. We have made it possible to make your previous installation of the chat workable with your v5 ProBoards forum. I think you have a ticket with us in our support system that I will try and work you through the integration.

I followed your directions. Then tried again. And again one more time. And get this:
oops there was an error.
the page does not exist.

just wanted to update its much easier to get a chat on your forum.
And on the home page above the boards.
1) Go to Admin/Themes/Layout Templates 2)Click the "Shoutbox" Link 3) Delete all the HTML 4) Replace with the "Chat Room Link Code" from your addonchat.com account 5) Replace { icon size: }
with:
{ iconsize: 0, autologin: true, username: proboards.data('user').username }
6) Type <center> above the pasted text. Type </center> below the pasted text.
7) Boom. Forum on your homepage.

In doing this you've completely removed the ShotBox from your forum and do not have a link to a custom page created just for the chat. It also will be logging people in as soon as they load your forum. It's best to have the chat on it's own page where members will go at a time when they want to use the chat.

Hi,
I don't know if perhaps there has been another thread opened for this procedure, but I'm running into the same error as Joanna, both when I replace { icon size: 0 } and when I don't. Is there a solution to this?
Much thanks in advanced, Lodan

Is there a solution to this? Much thanks in advanced, Lodan One of the problems Joanna was doing was trying to replace the built in shoutbox of ProBoards with the chat. Make sure you create a new page as detailed in the first post of this thread. If you still run into problems you can submit a support ticket at support@addoninteractive.com. Be sure to include a link to your forum. If needed we will create a membership on your forum and you can grant us all the necessary credentials to edit Custom Pages and Structure.

Is there a ban feature at all in the free version?

Is there a ban feature at all in the free version? The free basic chat does not include administration controls like ban, kick, etc. This would require any of our paid editions.

How does those with free version stop abuse then? That depends on what abuse you are talking about. If it is language you can include specific words to be filtered with the free chat by including them in your chat control panel. If you are wanting to ban a member from the chat you would need a premium chat edition. You can limit certain groups from using the chat by editing the acces to the chat custom page. As it is now even with the free chat only members of your forum should be able to use it.

I mean like, abusive, trolling, spamming and any other things most chatrooms ban for.
